What About Our Pets?

Directions

Our pets, our faithful companions, will no doubt die before our own journey of life ends.  There are preparations and considerations you need to take into account, recognizing this might well happen.

First, if there is a chance that YOU WILL NOT outlive your pet, then make arrangements for her or him in your will or trust.  Arrangements can be as simple as stating who you want to take care of your pet and the amount of money you have set aside from your estate for your pet's care.  It is a relief to your family if they know you planned for your pet's care, in the event of your passing.

If you outlive your pet, you have two choices: burial or cremation.  If you choose burial on your property, is important to study your city, township and county codes.   Some government bodies do not allow pet burials on private property, but do allow a pet to be buried in a pet cemetery.

If you choose cremation for your pet, there are pet crematoria that offer different types of pet cremations.  You will be asked if you want a private cremation, an individual/group partitioned cremation or a communal cremation.  A private cremation is of your pet, only.  Ashes are returned.  An individual/group partitioned cremation is a partitioned cremation of a number of pets, kept separate during the cremation process.  Ashes are returned.  A communal cremation is of a number of pets, together, with no partitions.  Ashes are not returned.  Typically, the communal cremation is chosen by Humane Societies and owners who do not want their pet's ashes returned.

A Pet Crematorium will give you a certificate of cremation, along with the ashes of your faithful companion, enclosed in  plastic and then placed in a container.  At The Road Home, we place the plastic in a velvet bag and then a wooden container.  You may also purchase additional items like urns, photograph collages, keepsakes and garden memorials.

Grieving the loss of a faithful companions is very difficult.  There are some Pet Crematoria that offer memorial services for your pet.  The Road Home does not offer these services but we can refer you to such services.  The staff at The Road Home Pet Crematorium is here to serve you and meet your needs.  Every year we offer a Feast of St. Francis as a remembrance of pets.
Thomas, the "wise sage" of our farm.

Thomas showed up with tattered ears and a rubber band around his abdomen.  Clearly abused, it took him awhile to recognize that there are safe homes and kind people.  He has softened since his arrival and has helped another stray orphaned kitty learn about the farm.
